Dr Amy Reichelt
Nutritional Neuroscientist (PhD, BSc, CHNP)
ABOUT
Hi! I’m Dr Amy Reichelt, founder of Cognition Nutrition. Thank you so much for coming to find out more about me and what I can do for your brain health!
My work in neuroscience over the past decade has been transformational in demonstrating the influence of nutrition to support brain health and optimize cognition. With Cognition Nutrition, my goal is to help others to nourish their brains to optimize their mental health and cognitive ability.
I completed a PhD in Neuroscience and a BSc (Honours, 1st class) Psychology, and I am a Certified Holistic Nutrition Practitioner. I have also completed certifications in Mental Health First Aid and courses in yoga, Motivational Interviewing, Health Coaching, Meditation and Mindfulness.
I have worked as a neuroscientist in multiple prestigious academic institutions in Australia, the UK and Canada where I led innovative research projects to uncover the impact of nutrition on brain function, and I now work in psychedelic-drug development for mental health and neurological conditions. I’m based in Toronto, where I live overlooking Lake Ontario.
I’ve been recognized as a leader in the field of neuroscience, nutrition, neuropharmacology and medicine – authoring over 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles in eminent journals including The Lancet, Journal of Neuroscience and Trends in Neuroscience. From my research programs, I developed deep expertise in the biological mechanisms of memory, neurodevelopment, the gut microbiome, behavioural control, and neurodegeneration. I’ve received competitive awards in leadership, science communication, and over $3.5 million in government research funding.
Ok, but beyond my academic credentials – I’m an approachable, down-to-earth person I promise! I’m honoured to have presented numerous invited talks at academic conferences and ideas festivals including TEDxSydney, National Science Week and Vivid Sydney, and recently TV series and podcasts as an expert in how food impacts the brain.
Beyond all that, I love food, good coffee, laughing at British comedies, working out at the gym, and hiking in the great Canadian outdoors with my partner Ben and our dogs Frank and Otto.
